If you find you're unable to get Telecom Broadband or Mobile Broadband, you might like to consider Telecom Dial-Up. With Telecom Dial-Up you don't need to sign up to a fixed term contract, you just have to have a phone line and pay a connection fee.

With Telecom Dial-Up you decide how many hours online you'll need per month - if you wish to be online longer in any month, you can pay an hourly rate for additional hours.

  • You will need Your Telecom account number - you'll find this on the top right-hand corner of your bill
  • If you do not have a Telecom account and are over 18 years of age, contact our team on
    0800 28 99 87 or Telecom on 123, to organise an account for you. This will only take a few minutes
  • If you have previously registered for Telecom Dial-Up or Broadband, you will need your Xtra username and password. If not, we will help you create a new one
  • There are 10 steps in the sign-up process, which should take no more than 15 minutes to complete
  • For your security, this online order will time out if you do not complete the order within approximately 30 minutes

*1 Customers new to using Dial-Up with Telecom will be charged a $27.95 connection fee. Previous Telecom account holders reconnecting their Telecom Dial-Up plan will be charged a one-time reconnection fee of $14.95.

*2 Telecom Dial-Up XVP is a single user plan. This means that if more than one person logs on at the same time using the same User Name, additional hours are charged at $2.50 per hour for the time that each additional person is logged on. Additional hours over your monthly allowance for the Prepay 30 and Prepay 150 plans are charged at $2.50 per hour.

Do I need to sign up to a contract?

No, Telecom Dial-Up customers do not need to sign up to a contract and there are no disconnection penalties.

Can Dial-Up users change to another Dial-Up plan at any time?

Yes, if your needs change you can move to a higher or lower plan anytime. However please note that you cannot change from the Telecom Dial-Up XVP to another Xtra Dial-Up Plan within the first 30 days. It's easy to change plans online or you can call us anytime on 0800 22 55 98.

What if I want to change to Telecom Broadband?

There are no disconnection fees for changing from Dial-Up to one of our Broadband plans. Please visit our availability checker to see if broadband is right for you.

How much will I be charged on my first bill?

Customers registering for Dial-Up will be charged the connection fee, one month's plan charges in advance, plus a pro rata charge from the time of signing up to the first billing date. For example, if your normal billing date is the 20th of the month, and you sign up on the 12th of the month, you will be charged for 8 days worth of Dial-Up.

What equipment do I need?

To use dial-up you'll need a computer with a dial-up modem, a phone cable, and a phone jack connected to a working phone line.

How long does it take to get connected?

Once you've completed the sign-up you'll be able to use your dial-up connection straight away.
