First Foundation

First FoundationTelecom is a principal sponsor of the First Foundation, an organisation which helps financially disadvantaged but academically talented students realise their dreams of tertiary education through an innovative partnership with businesses.

Each scholarship student is matched with a business where they undertake paid work experience. This means students receive the benefit of developing work-based skills and financial assistance with their tertiary fees, while businesses take pride in involving students directly in their organisation.

First Foundation students also receive independent support from a mentor drawn from the wider business community. In addition to its broader support for the First Foundation, Telecom also provides three student scholarships.

The First Foundation has provided over 90 students with tertiary scholarships since it was established in 1998 and more than 30 businesses are now involved as partnering organisations.

Stop Bullying Campaign

The Stop Bullying campaign is part of the New Zealand Police Youth Education Service programme, Kia Kaha, which is taught in primary and secondary schools.

Telecom believes the Stop Bully campaign is important in helping to create safer classrooms and strengthen the community. We support the campaign through sponsorship of pamphlets, with advice on how to deal with bullying, for parents and caregivers and young people, as well as the 0800 NO BULLY (0800 662855) info-line.

Parents can now find advice to help stop bullying no matter what language they speak. Telecom and the New Zealand Police Youth Education Service have translated an anti-bullying pamphlet for parents into eight different languages, (Maori, Samoan, Tongan, Cook Islands Maori, simplified Chinese, Korean, Somali and Arabic) to help parents and their children recognise, and stop, bullying.

For more information visit www.nobully.org.nz or you can download all nine versions of the pamphlet below.
