What you'll get to do
Our Leadership Development Programme gives you an overview of our business and the chance to work in a diverse range of areas. So you can discover the best fit for your skills and interests. You'll develop your abilities while being mentored by a member of our leadership group.
We've decided to put our Graduate Leadership Development Programme on hold. The recruitment of further graduates has been deferred until the second half of 2012, at which time Telecom will have a clearer view of the number and types of positions available in 2013. Please re-visit us in July 2012 for a further update.
Induction
First up, you take part in an induction session where you'll get a full overview of our business and the wider telecommunications industry. You'll meet heads of our key business units - giving you a real insight into our challenges and opportunities as they see them. You'll also meet past and current graduates of the programme.
Role rotations
If you're thinking about Telecom's Graduate Leadership Development Programme you're probably already thinking about getting the best possible grounding for your career and a solid start to take you as far as you can go.
The plan is to give you a better understanding of Telecom's broad business tasks - and to help you discover the role that's tailored to your specific skills and interests. You might uncover something you didn't know about yourself or become something you never thought you'd be.
You'll take on three or four different roles from across each of our operational areas, with real deliverables and responsibilities.
The programme will give you an in-depth look at:
- a business unit tactical role
- a group function role
- a three-month rotation in one of our retail stores
Development and training
"It truly is an ideal way to start in the workforce."
A key part of Telecom culture is the continued development of our people, so every graduate is paired up with a mentor from our leadership group. Your mentor has all the words of wisdom to help you develop and succeed with Telecom.
You'll have a monthly progress check with your line manager and a more formal performance and development review every quarter, to see how things are tracking for you.
You'll also get plenty of informal feedback on how you're going in your roles and ongoing career development guidance.
The Leadership Development Programme features as many as three training courses a year. These will develop your skills in areas like managing people, delivering persuasive presentations and influencing others.
What about after the programme?
"It will be the best decision you have ever made!"
The programme runs for two years. After that, like everyone who works at Telecom, you can further develop your career. Depending on the experiences you've had, you can make a call about the area within the business you want to specialise in, and be where you want to be.
Senior managers involved with hiring people under the programme meet regularly to discuss the best next step for each graduate. In making their recommendation they'll consider all of Telecom's business groups across New Zealand and Australia.
At the end of the programme they'll talk with you about what you want to do, which part of the business suits you best and the roles available at that time.
Specific roles can't be guaranteed because availability changes constantly. But you'll have seen plenty of Telecom, met heaps of contacts and if the role rotations went well, a whole world of opportunities will have opened for you.
