Call Divider

What is it?

Call Divider gives a single phone line two numbers, one connected to a residential account, the other to a business account - and it does it all without needing a second line.

Please note: Call Divider is available to existing customers only.

How does it work?

With Call Divider you can switch to the business account simply by dialling in your personal access code and pin. From that point on, it's as if you're using a completely different phone.

  • Any Smartphone services on your business number are activated
  • The people you call will see your business number on their caller ID
  • All subsequent calls are billed directly to the business account - so there's no more going through your monthly bill to identify business calls for your expense reports or tax records
  • Even better, the business number has the same calling rates as the business account - and that can mean big Telecom savings on national and international calls
  • Calls to your business number have a unique ring tone so it's easy to identify a business call and answer it appropriately
  • A unique dial tone tells when you're in Business mode, so you can be sure you're making calls on the right account

Tips

If home-based workers have an existing office number, this can be set to divert to the new Call Divider number as appropriate. That way, callers will still be able to contact the person on their usual number. If your office number has its own Call Minder service, you can link the office mailbox to the Call Divider business number, so that you can check messages for both numbers with one call.

If there is not an existing Call Minder service, Call Divider Plus is an excellent way to combine Call Divider and a Call Minder on the business number. When you are not logged in incoming calls to the business number will receive an engaged tone unless the number is diverted to another number or a mailbox.

Things you should know

Call Divider incompatible with some Smartphone services. These Smartphone services include Faxability, Three Way Calling, Dual Number and Visual Message Waiting Indication. The business Call Divider number cannot also carry Call Waiting. All calling on the business number must be made through Telecom.

Switching to Business Mode changes your phone from your normal residential service. Any Smartphone services on your residential line, such as Call Waiting, will be temporarily deactivated. Once you switch back to Personal Mode, your residential services will return to their normal service.

It is your responsibility to ensure you make calls from the appropriate account. Only make business calls when you are in Business Mode, and personal calls in Personal Mode.

Telecom requires 30 days notice of cancellation of Call Divider. This means the usual charges will continue to apply for 30 days after the date you cancel your service, even if it is disconnected within that period (there will be some exceptions). For some existing customers, as separately advised, this requirement applies from 1 January 2004. Where you have agreed to take Call Divider for a minimum period, charges for this service will continue to apply until the end of that period. Please note that if you cancel Call Divider, you will not be able to take up the service again, as we no longer provide it for new customers.
