Are all jobs at Telecom advertised?

We always look at our internal talent first for our vacancies and where we need to go to the external market all roles will be advertised on our careers site.

Can I apply for more than one job?

Absolutely, Telecom is a large organisation which means we offer a multitude of opportunities - we encourage you to apply for any role that you are interested in. However, we do highly recommend that you only apply for targeted positions for which you have suitable skills and experience - applying for multiple positions can damage your credibility. We'll consider you for other current openings within Telecom if you do not have the skills and experience we require for the position for which you have applied.

Can I apply for jobs if I'm not legally entitled to work in New Zealand?

Telecom gives preference to candidates who have the legal right to work in New Zealand. If you are not a New Zealand or Australian citizen, contact the New Zealand Immigration Service to see if you are eligible to work in New Zealand.

I'm concerned about confidentiality. Who has access to my details?

We treat all applications confidentially; the recruitment team can view your profile, and where appropriate will share your CV with our Managers and HR team involved in the recruitment process.

I am being sent job notifications which are unsuitable. What can I do to correct this?

If you're being sent notifications from the careers site about jobs that are not of interest to you, try updating your profile as our system aligns your profile to current job openings and where there's a match sends the job notification.

Are internal and external candidates treated differently?

At Telecom we are committed to developing our people, so we will advertise new vacancies internally first before placing the vacancy on the external Telecom careers site. However once we get to a point where we are interviewing and selecting candidates, everyone goes through the same selection process.

Is remuneration information available?

No, this is not something we explicitly advertise with our vacancies. However as part of the application process we do encourage you to let us know your salary expectations. This will let us know if we are all on the same page in regards to remuneration.

Am I able to get a copy of the Position Description for the advertised position?

If you find a role that's of interest to you and you'd like a position description then please email recruitment@telecom.co.nz, with the job code and name of the vacancy.

How do I know what level the role is at?

For senior level roles look for words in the content of the advertisement that indicate some of the following; leadership capabilities, accountability, responsibility for P&L'S, strategy development and implementation, board reporting and budget setting. Most useful is see whom the role reports to i.e. HO, GM, CEO

How can I find out more about a position before applying?

There are lots of ways to find out more information about a position and we encourage you to really research the role before applying to make sure it's right for you. You can request a position description, read up on Telecom and find out more about the business unit the position sits within. Some of our advertisements include our consultant's details to contact them or email your questions to recruitment@telecom.co.nz.

What are phone screens for?

Typically our consultants will ring you to find out more information and dive into more detail, around your skills, experience to date, achievements as well as other stuff like your motivations and aspirations. At the same time this is an opportunity for you to find out more about the role, team, and business unit and make sure you present yourself in your best light.

What are pre screening questions for?

Sometimes we ask questions as part of the online application process so we can get a feel for why you are applying for this particular role, and what your experience has been so far in your career. It also a great way for us to find out how you think so put some thought into what you want to say in these, as these questions are a part of the selection process.

How do I withdraw my application?

If you're no longer interested in pursuing a role you have applied for, then please let us know by emailing recruitment@telecom.co.nz, and we will withdraw your application.

How do I remove my profile permanently?

If you're no longer interested in maintaining your profile on our database please let us know by emailing recruitment@telecom.co.nz, and we'll delete your profile. Otherwise once you have created a profile and it remains inactive for a period of time, we'll delete it. However before we delete anything you'll be sent an e-mail confirming that this is ok.
