If you've got a complex IT network set up, like sending automated dispatch orders by email to customers or scanning and emailing files, you might need some specialist IT help to make these changes.

You'll need to make sure your email settings are up to date for each computer or device that sends email. So if you have a laptop, iPad or Smartphone, you'll need to make changes to all of these.

Use your provider's server

If you're not using a Telecom email service, the easiest thing to do is update your system to the settings of your e-mail provider. Below you'll find a list of the most popular email providers. If your email provider isn't listed, you'll need to get in touch with them to find out which changes to make.

Don't want that? Get a free XTRA email address

It's easy to update your email settings if you change to an Xtra email address. You can choose your new address and set it up FREE online.

If you already have an Xtra account, you'll need your email address and your password. If you’ve forgotten that, reset it here.

It may be possible to link your old email address to a new Xtra email address. Just get your Yahoo Xtra address sorted, then follow the steps below to Verify a third party email address in Yahoo Mail.

You will need your @xtra.co.nz email address and password. If you have forgotten your email address/ user name, you will need to call the Broadband Help Desk on 0800 22 55 98. If you have forgotten your password, click on the I can't access my account link and follow the steps to reset your password.

  1. Log into Yahoo Mail using your Xtra email address and password.
  2. Mouse over the Gear/Cog icon in the top right hand corner of the page.
  3. Select Settings from the dropdown list
    Mail Options

  4. Click Accounts from the left hand side of the window
  5. Click Add on the right-hand side
    Click +

  6. Enter Account nameEmail address, Description, and Reply-to address
  7. Click Save
    Add Account window

  8. A box will appear telling you to check the email address
  9. Click OK
    Add Account window

  10. Log into your other email account and locate the email from Yahoo
Note: If you can't see the email, check the Spam/Trash folder.
  11. Click the Verify [your email address] link in the email
  12. Wait for the Yahoo! confirmation screen to load
  13. Click Continue
  14. You will be returned to the Mail Options window
  15. Click Accounts
  16. The new account is now verified and can be used to send mail through the Telecom mail server

Why do I have to verify my email address?
Account verification was bought in to combat spammers who used Yahoo Mail servers to distribute their malicious email. All third party accounts that want to use the Yahoo Mail servers must first verify their details. If your email account has its own mail servers you can use those instead without verifying.

Why do I have to log into Yahoo Mail if my email address is @xtra.co.nz?
Telecom has partnered with Yahoo and is using them to provide a Webmail service. As part of this, you gain access to Yahoo products and services like Flickr.

Do I have to have an @xtra.co.nz email address?
An @xtra.co.nz email address doesn't just let you send and receive email. It also grants access to other Yahoo services like Flickr, as well as allowing you to sign up for McAfee Security Suite, free of charge.

How many third party email addresses can be verified via webmail?
This feature allows you to add up-to ten third party email address.
