With many of our Total Home packages, you can choose what happens if you exceed you monthly data allowance. You can alter your settings using the online form for changing your Telecom Broadband plan.
What are my setting options?
Additional data
If you want flexibility and fast internet access all month, then additional data allows you to pay for any data not covered by your monthly allowance.
If you do exceed your data allowance, you can keep using the internet at your usual broadband speed - you won't be slowed down. Any additional data you use will be billed to your Telecom account at $2 per GB (charged per MB so you only pay for what you use).
Additional data was formerly referred to as 'overage' and it may still be called that in a few places.
Reduced speed
If you want price certainty, this option means that your monthly broadband cost is fixed.
If you exceed your data allowance, you can keep using the internet at no extra cost but your speed will be significantly reduced (to a maximum of 64 kilobits per second).
Reduced speed was formerly referred to as 'throttle on cap' and it may still be called that in a few places.

How do I change my broadband plan settings?
- If you're a new customer signing up to one of our Total Home packages the available options will be presented at step 1 "Tailor your package", under the heading "Options if you reach your data allowance".
- If you're a current Telecom customer, you can change your plan settings by using the online form for changing your Telecom Broadband plan.
Log in and choose you current plan from the list. Reduced speed or additional data options will then appear as relevant. Choose your preference and continue through each step until the form is completed.
