Our Speed Test

We've always believed that our network was up with the world's best, but we thought it was time to put it to the test again.

We were very proud of XT's performance in TrueNet test results published in June and July 2011 and wanted to perform a factual test ourselves and film it live for a TV ad. We encourage our customers to go and experience our superfast network for themselves.

The filming process

The test in the TV commercial was carried out in Albert Park, central Auckland on 4th August 2011 so that there was no building interference that could disadvantage either network. We filmed it in a tent because the screens on the smartphones, the Samsung Galaxy SII, are highly reflective and we wanted you to see the results clearly.

We made sure the test was a fair comparison, and didn't advantage one network over the other. We used the same handset, testing both networks at the same time. No enhancements were made to the XT network for this advertisement and both networks showed equal 3G coverage and reception at this location - a well known part of Auckland - at the time of the test.

The results

The test in the ad clearly showed the XT network performed faster for data than the other network in this test.

At the Sylvia Park retail centre we challenged shoppers to download a mobile app on the different networks - here's what happened.

Although our ad only showed you the speed of our network in one location on a certain day, we're continually testing our network to make sure we always bring you the best possible experience.
