The smartphone network

The smartphone network isn't a new network. And it's not replacing XT. It's all things Telecom mobile and it delivers you a world-class experience.

Exclusive devices from the most popular manufacturers; calling, text & data plans that work harder to give you great value; and nationwide stores filled with smartphone experts.

The smartphone network is powered by XT, which is designed for smartphones and delivers fast, nationwide, mobile internet coverage to 97% of the places Kiwi's live and work. Check out the coverage in your area.

Keeping it smart and fast

We're continually investing in our Mobile network - building additional capacity, adding new features – and monitoring its performance.

Over the past year, we have added new equipment and upgraded software so that we can bring you increased capacity and reliability.

And we believe our network is really fast - we’re continually testing it ourselves, we've seen others test it with great results, and we'd like to invite you to try it for yourself.

Join the smartphone network

To really get the best out of the network we recommend you get yourself a smartphone. It's like having your computer with you, in your hand, whenever you need it.

But all you really need is a SIM card, either with a monthly plan or on prepaid. Switching to Telecom is simple and you can bring your current mobile number, too.

If you already have a phone and you’d like to use it on the Telecom Mobile Network it’s easy to check if it may be compatible.

Our customers tell us it is a great experience...

Our investment in keeping the network humming

If you're inclined towards facts and figures, here's a little bit about our work on the network.

As we mentioned above, since July 2010 we have carried out over 750 site build activities, both the construction of new mobile sites and upgrades to existing ones.

Our network also has emergency calling roaming capability, which means customers with a compatible phone on another network can use XT for emergency calling to 111 (that is if they cannot receive mobile service on their current network). Similarly, XT customers with Telecom purchased devices can switch to another mobile network to make emergency calls to 111, if they are not receiving mobile service from XT.

We plan to continue investing in additional capacity and expanding the XT network, so as more customers join XT and our customers grow in their use of mobile data services we will be ready.

Part of planning our mobile site investment is reviewing how and where customers currently use the network, where new housing or commercial developments are being built, and where community or other interest groups tell us they would like to have more coverage.

We're also always reviewing developments in mobile technology, and regularly engage with vendors and other network providers all over the world to get their expert support.

Our investment and innovation is always focused on delivering products and services to our customers that we know they want or need.
