Got everything you need?

There are five things you're going to need to enjoy everything TiVo has to offer.

Five must-haves to get the most from TiVo

  1. A standard or high definition (HD) television.
  2. Broadband connection. To activate your TiVo and receive the 14-day on-screen TV guide you must have a broadband connection. The TiVo media device will not work on a mobile broadband connection. With a Telecom Broadband account, you get everything TiVo has to offer with no impact on your monthly broadband data allowance. If your broadband service is not with Telecom, you may have to pay broadband usage charges.
  3. Wireless or Multi-Port Modem
You can use either an Ethernet wired connection or a wireless connection (using a wireless adapter and wireless modem) to access your Telecom Broadband. We'll even give you a free wireless adapter with your TiVo media bundle.

If you're using a wired Ethernet connection you'll need a standard PC modem with multiple ports to connect both your TiVo media device and PC. If you're using a wireless modem it is best to have it reasonably near your TiVo media device.
  4. Rooftop UHF aerial
To get Freeview|HD® channels through your TiVo media device, you'll need a rooftop UHF aerial (indoor UHF aerials do not qualify). Your TiVo media device will not be able to access Freeview|HD® channels via a satellite dish.
  5. Freeview|HD® UHF coverage
You'll need to be in a Freeview|HD® UHF coverage area. The Freeview digital service is being offered both via satellite dish and UHF aerial. The TiVo media device is only compatible with the Freeview UHF digital service - Freeview|HD.

Freeview|HD® coverage areas include nine major centres (Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Napier, Hastings, Palmerston North, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin) covering 75% of New Zealand homes. Check if you can get Freeview|HD®.

What else you should know …

As a guideline, if you can clearly get free-to-air channels such as Trackside or Maori TV with a UHF aerial (see diagram) it’s likely you can receive Freeview|HD® channels.

If you are unsure we highly recommended you contact a TV aerial installer in your area to help with your UHF aerial and cabling needs before purchasing your TiVo media device.

Telecom, Hybrid Television Services, and Freeview|HD® are not responsible for and do not warrant the products and services offered by installers.

If you can't get Freeview|HD® coverage, you can still use your TiVo media device to download movies and TV shows via your Telecom Broadband connection.

Anyone can buy a TiVo media device from Telecom, but if you want to enjoy the full experience with unmetered content, you also need to be a Telecom Broadband customer.
