0161 international calls

If you want great value on short calls overseas, 0161 could be the right call for you.

Telecom's 0161 International calling service is the lower cost alternative to our standard International Direct Dial service.

How do I get 0161?

Be a Telecom home phone and calling customer, dial 0161 before an international country code and get great value rates.

Want to make quick international calls?

With 0161 you can make lower cost calls anywhere in the world from your home phone at any time. Please understand though that the quality of the call is lower than our standard international service.

How does 0161 work?

Simply dial 0161 before an international country code. So, if you want to call the United Kingdom replace '00' before the country code with '0161'. That means instead of dialling '0044', you dial '016144'. And if you’re calling an overseas mobile phone, you don’t include the leading zero. So if the person you are calling is in England and their mobile number is '028 1234567', you need to dial '0161 44 28 1234567'.

What else you should know...

Telecom customers must dial 0161 before the country code to get the lower per minute rates. If you have your calling with another provider but your access is with Telecom you are able to use the 0161 service and will be eligible for the Telecom rates as advertised.

If you are not a Telecom customer you will not be eligible for Telecom's advertised rates and you will need to check the rates charged by your provider.

Voice quality, hearing difficulties and call connection issues may arise. Call charges will apply regardless of such issues. Telecom's usual international capped calling offers, call quality and call connection assurances do not apply to 0161 calls.

Excludes 059, Yabba, NZ Direct, standard Telecom Calling Cards and other calling card calls.

Available to residential customers only, 0161 rates apply to direct dial voice calls from your Telecom home phone.

Not available in combination with any other international calling offers.

0161 calls are billed on a per-minute basis. This means call durations are rounded up to the nearest full minute.
